HOW TO STYLE FACE MASKS AS AN ACCESSORY TO ELEVATE YOUR OUTFIT
It’s the trend that no one saw coming, but has arguably become the most consequential in our day-to-day style: Face Masks.
Over the past year, people around the world have made a commitment to mask up to stop the spread of COVID-19. In the beginning, many of us picked up surgical masks or leveraged our DIY skills to make our own, without thinking too much about how they’d factor into our overall style in the long-term.
However, while most trends come and go with the seasons, it’s become clear that masks aren’t going away any time soon. Instead, it’s time to embrace face masks as an accessory. That means not only selecting mask styles that match your outfits, but also, seeing a mask as something that could actually elevate your look, in the same way that the perfect pair of shoes or purse would.
Here’s how to take your face mask from a utility to a unique style moment.
ELEVATE YOUR EVERYDAY MASK OPTIONS
You’re going to want a few high-quality masks that are easy to accessorize, no matter your outfit. In the same way you have go-to basics in your wardrobe, make sure you have a line-up of masks that can go well with a range of outfits. Some of our go-tos include gray and navy masks that can compliment monochrome looks, or provide simplicity with an outfit that already has a lot going on in terms of colors and patterns.
Once you have your essentials, look for masks with some added detailing that you’ll be wearing time and again. For times when you want to add a little sparkle, try a black face mask with studs or rhinestones; or, other solid-color masks that feature some bling (see options in red and white on our site). These can easily elevate a day-to-day outfit, and are perfect for special occasions that demand something extra in your look (and in your mask).
ROUND OUT YOUR COLLECTION WITH PATTERNS & POPS OF COLOR
Just because we need to wear a mask, that does not mean you can’t make it your own. Masks can add an extra pop of color or make a statement to spice up your look and show your personality off. If you’ve been intrigued by all of the trending patterns this past year, but you’ve been afraid to try, then starting with a patterned face mask might be a great way to get your feet wet! These options can also add some dynamism and detail to a monochrome look — spicing up an all-black outfit, for example.
Some of our favorite patterns for masks, that we’re currently carrying, include:
Florals: the Blue/White Floral Face Mask, Winter Floral Face Mask Black/Pink, or Autumn Floral Face Mask Navy/Pink
Animal prints: the Snake Layered Face Mask Beige, Dalmatian Face Mask Black/White, or Grey Multi Leopard Face Mask
Tie Dye: the Navy/Purple Tie Dye Face Mask or Navy/Mustard Tie Dye Face Mask
Stars: the Black/Gold Star Face Mask or Black/White Star Doodle Face Mask

REMEMBER: NOTHING CAN MASK YOUR STYLE
When you feel good, nothing can mask your confidence or who you are — not even a face mask itself. So don’t let it! If you start embracing face masks as an accessory, we promise you’ll be surprised by your ability to elevate your look in ways you never would have considered before.
