NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION GUIDE
Another year, another list of resolutions that we set for ourselves. Sometimes it can be difficult to set resolutions and actually stick to them, but this upcoming year is a fresh start — and sometimes, even the smallest of commitments or intentions that we set for ourselves can make a difference.
Instead of making the same goals for yourself every year, try switching it up and setting smaller, more achievable — and tangible — goals. Even in the midst of challenging times like we’re living in now, any small progress that you can make for yourself, that makes you feel your best and keeps you pressing forward, is something to celebrate.
Here are a few resolutions on our list, in case they inspire your own:
PRIORITIZE MENTAL HEALTH BY PRIORITIZING PHYSICAL HEALTH
“Exercise more” is perhaps the most cliche resolution we hear each year. But this year, we’re not looking at this as a “get fit quick” play — 2020 has shown many of us the importance of self-care and mental health, and sometimes, that can be bolstered by the endorphin rush of physical exercise, too.
It doesn’t need to be about a number on a scale — in fact, it shouldn’t be. Do you feel great after going for a run? Try slotting one in a few times a week. Does taking a virtual yoga class before work help ground you? Set that alarm and get that class in! It’s not about exercising just to look good; it’s about feeling good and doing it for you. That’s a resolution worth sticking to in our book.
START JOURNALING
Many of us at LIT LOVE manifesting our goals and keeping track of our daily lives. It all starts with writing it down to make it feel real and help you visualize where you want to go. That being said, I have a feeling that next year will be the year of journaling. Journaling is something that can be done in so many ways. Every day writing in a journal about how you are feeling, what your weekly goals are, what made you happy that day or even what you are grateful for is a perfect example of prompts. Something about writing these out on paper makes it more realistic. Taking the time to journal throughout the week is a great new year's resolution that could possibly make you feel more relaxed and positive everyday, helping you track progress toward big goals.
GIVE BACK
2020 has shown us many things. Among them: the importance of standing up for what you believe in, supporting those in need in your community, and using your power as a force for change. In 2021, we want to ensure that sentiment carries on — so one of the resolutions on our list is to continue to find ways to give back to causes we care about and to those in need in our communities.
We know we care about more than what you wear, and so do we. That’s why we’ve launched a LIT Gives Back program through which we’ll give you $10 to donate to the charity of your choice when you spend $100 with us. So if giving back is on your list too, don’t miss your chance to do so next time you shop! A couple of the amazing causes that the LIT community has already supported include the Trevor Project, Rock the Vote and many many more.
STEP UP YOUR STYLE
If you are someone who’s always wanted to be that fashionista and absolutely rock every outfit you ever put on, then stepping up your wardrobe might be the perfect resolution for you. Again, it’s about not only looking good, but feeling good as you chase your goals.
Maybe this year you can plan on shopping at new stores or even making a vision board of the aesthetic of your new style. This will allow you to look at clothes and really start finding new pieces for your closet. Maybe you lean more into a boho style, a chic work look, or even street style. Think about the businesses you’re supporting too — this has been a big one for us this year as we’ve increasingly partnered with diverse, innovative and local brands. Supporting small businesses is more important now more than ever before. Take it from us — we appreciate it more than you know!
Here at LIT we love quality and affordable fashion, and we highly suggest you look into pieces that will last you years vs a few washes. Make this new year one for the (fashion) books! Like the people always say... new year, new you!
TAKE MORE TIME TO TALK TO FAMILY
With 2020 throwing us for a loop in our life, we have all seen the importance of keeping in touch with family as much as possible. This could also be another great goal to set for your new years resolution. If you are someone who is not in regular contact with your parents, grandparents, or other family, maybe set a goal to call one of them once a week or at least once a month (Zoom is a great way to keep in touch!) Not only is this important, but it will help you feel grounded and connected in a time when many of us can’t be together face-to-face.
RESOLUTIONS AS YOUR RESET
The world is coming up on a major reset after 2020, and it’s inspired us to look at our own lives and push for positive change too. If you’re feeling similarly, don’t hold back from trying new things and setting new goals. You’ll be amazed at how meaningful even the smallest big of progress can feel… once you check off that first goal, it might just seem as if you can do anything you set your mind to! If you have any great tips to stick with a new year’s resolution let us know!
