INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS: LIVING A HAPPY, HEALTHY, LIT LIFE

LIT Babes: Happy International Day of Happiness! As we continue to face the challenges of the world together, this day — happening on March 20, 2021 — is an excuse to find positive ways to look after ourselves and our mental health. Despite all of the pressure and burdens that we all feel, let us find the ways in which we can continue to live a happy and healthy life!

Look back on the past year. While you can easily come up with the ways the pandemic has negatively impacted your life, try to dig deeper and think of the ways you grew as a person. Perhaps you value the increased time you spent with your family, your roommates, your pets, or even yourself. Or maybe you picked up a new hobby, made a new friend, or even discovered a new TV show that you love. You see? There is always something that you can be grateful for, even when things seem bleak and unhopeful. When you go to bed at night, try to think of 3 things you were grateful for that day. Even if your answer is something as simple as “I’m grateful for food, my bed, and my dog,” having a positive mindset each day can have tremendous results. A positive day leads to a positive week, month, year, and so on. Start small, and the big results will follow.

Real talk: you may find yourself struggling to look at your days with a positive mindset, and honestly, that’s completely understandable. Life can be overwhelming and exhausting, so that is why you need to take the time to prioritize yourself. A self care day can do wonders for your happiness! 

SO, WHERE TO BEGIN?

First, you definitely need comfortable clothes. Life is restrictive enough right now, don’t let your clothes restrict you more! Once you have your look set, decide how you’re going to pamper yourself. Whether you do an extensive skincare treatment, give yourself a manicure (we recommend press-on nails for at-home pampering in style!) or relax in a bubble bath, spending some quality time prioritizing yourself will help you relax and feel more in touch with your thoughts

Don’t overlook mindfulness. If you know what is upsetting you, you have a better idea of how to change that. If you know what makes you feel truly happy, you know to keep acting in the same way that gives you those feelings. If you find yourself struggling, perhaps you are looking outward at what makes you happy rather than looking inward at yourself. While external influences certainly influence your happiness, your happiness at its core comes from within.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, do not be too hard on yourself. Do not hold yourself to the standards of productivity and energy that you held yourself to in 2019 or even 2020. Don’t be your own harshest critic and give yourself a break!

As the world adjusts, adjust your mindset. We are about to enter another big adjustment period: return to normalcy!
